Being Outdoors, June 2023

6 Jun 2023 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

And just like that, another month has passed. Read on for what we did in May when the weather finally turned fair at the weekend.. If we were being outdoors today, I'd go on about how we fitted in five waterfall hikes in only three weekends. It's not like we planned it, but it was … Continue reading Being Outdoors, June 2023

Being Outdoors, May 2023

And now one-third of the year has passed. I used to mark all sorts of numeric milestones during the year when I was doing my photo-a-day project a decade ago, and it surprised me how many times I could make something of them. I wouldn't do another photo-a-day project, but I did really enjoy writing … Continue reading Being Outdoors, May 2023

Being Outdoors, April 2023

And just like that, a quarter of the year has passed. We have our lighter evenings and longer days back and it feels so good! Okay, so it's not feeling any warmer yet but hopefully that will come soon enough. If we were being outdoors today, I'd say how I surprised myself by admitting I … Continue reading Being Outdoors, April 2023

Being Outdoors, March 2023

It's that time of year when the days are lengthening, it's no longer dark at 5 pm, and there's a sense that spring is just around the corner. Or maybe the next corner, or the one after that, depending on whether a marmot's cousin claims to have seen its shadow. And then it goes and … Continue reading Being Outdoors, March 2023

Being Outdoors, February 2023

Well that's the first month of the new year over. The days are getting noticeably longer again which is a great mood-lifter. I read something recently where the writer mentioned that they found January and February to be hopeful months because of those lengthening days, and I'm inclined to agree. The first signs of spring … Continue reading Being Outdoors, February 2023

Being Outdoors, January 2023

7 Jan 20237 Jan 2023 ~ AndyG ~ 2 Comments

Welcome to a new year! 2022 seemed to pass so quickly... Hope you all had a peaceful and relaxing holiday season and that 2023 brings many great adventures! If we were being outdoors today I'd be looking longingly at the North Shore mountains as it's been a few weeks since we were last up there … Continue reading Being Outdoors, January 2023

Being Outdoors, November 2022

10 Nov 202210 Nov 2022 ~ AndyG ~ 4 Comments

Time passes all too quickly and November is here. The rains have returned to Vancouver with a vengeance and the fine weather of only a few weeks ago already feels like a distant memory. October was still a good month for hiking which I'll tell you all about below. If we were being outdoors today, … Continue reading Being Outdoors, November 2022

Being Outdoors, October 2022

16 Oct 202216 Oct 2022 ~ AndyG ~ 2 Comments

Well here we are a month later and I've written precisely zero new posts. 🙁 (Actually more than a month if you're being pedantic.) Can I blame it on the fact that we've spent a lot of time being outdoors these past few weeks? Yes, yes I can, and I will! September was indeed a … Continue reading Being Outdoors, October 2022

Being Outdoors, September 2022

9 Sep 20228 Sep 2022 ~ AndyG ~ 6 Comments

I have a huge backlog of posts that I'm writing or at least have written notes for, and it's hard to find the time that I want to devote to them to tell the story of the trip, to find the right photos, to create something I can re-read in years to come and remember … Continue reading Being Outdoors, September 2022

A celebration of trees for this #ForestFriday
Mother Nature knows what month it is - Happy Pride Month!
Last weekend's tour of the waterfalls of Gold Creek was a delightfully peaceful and atmospheric wander through extreme green forest with the first of the spring flowers beginning to show. Apart from the thundering waterfalls, that is.
A selection of fawn lilies for #FawnLilyFriday - white fawn lilies from Salt Spring Island and pink fawn lilies from UBC.
A long weekend on Salt Spring Island offered up the pinkest of treats with more fairyslipper (calypso) orchids blooming than we've ever seen before. Absolutely stunning!
Looking forward to the summer hiking season and following the lifecycle of my favourite flowers, such as Western anemone, from pushing up through the snow to its fluffy finale.
