2007: a year in snow

18 Apr 20086 May 2021 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

Well I did it. I managed to get my feet in snow in every month of 2007. I guess it wasn't that hard really as winter 2006/2007 was a very big snow year so it persisted at high elevations well into July and even August. Then early an snowfall in October helped me achieve my … Continue reading 2007: a year in snow

Stanley Park, 31 Dec 2007

31 Dec 2007 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

The last day of 2007, and it turned out to be a fine one. We opted for a less snowy destination, figuring that we'd be seeing in the new year on snowshoes (except that didn't happen...). I had a quick look at the Hiking Guide to the Big Trees of British Columbia by Randy Stoltmann … Continue reading Stanley Park, 31 Dec 2007

24 Dec 20072 Mar 2011 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

What better way to feel like Christmas than to head up into the mountains and enjoy some snow? And on Christmas Eve, too! As usual with our attempts on Hollyburn, we set off after mid-day and somehow managed to get a parking spot not too far from the trailhead. One of the perks of turning … Continue reading Hollyburn snowshoe, 24 Dec 2007

Mount Seymour (Second Peak), 8 Dec 2007

8 Dec 200715 Feb 2021 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

Mount Seymour take two... With a fine forecast and no recent snow, there would be no problems getting up the mountain this week! Eight of us met at the usual place and set off for a fun day in the snow. The parking lot was mostly clear (just a few patches of ice here and … Continue reading Mount Seymour (Second Peak), 8 Dec 2007

Baden-Powell and Mushroom Loop, 1 Dec 2007

1 Dec 2007 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

This was supposed to be a fabulous snowshoe trip up to the first peak of Mt Seymour in fresh soft snow. Trouble is, the access road looked dodgy at 9am and none of us felt confident to proceed. The road up wasn't really the problem, though it was a bit snowy despite the recent passage … Continue reading Baden-Powell and Mushroom Loop, 1 Dec 2007

Brockton Point, 18 Nov 2007

18 Nov 2007 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

After our long break away in the UK, I was running out of time to get my boots covered in snow for November. Fortunately the rainy weather broke one weekend and we grabbed our gear and headed out for a quick jaunt up to Brockton Point on Mt Seymour so I could maintain my record … Continue reading Brockton Point, 18 Nov 2007

Flora Lake, 13 Oct 2007

13 Oct 2007 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

We'd been eyeing up this trail for a while, so a fine weekend in October gave us the perfect excuse to call it out and head out with Alena and Katherine, fellow hikers from Wanderung. We parked up at the Post Creek trailhead and set off, initially as if we were heading for Lindeman and … Continue reading Flora Lake, 13 Oct 2007

Mount Robson, 13–18 Sep 2007: Day 6

18 Sep 200722 Feb 2021 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

Another beautiful sunny morning saw us packing up our gear for the last time. From there we stopped at the Mount Robson cafe for breakfast (our first coffee in several days!) and more gawping at the mountain. Since it was fairly early in the day we figured we had enough time to do a little … Continue reading Mount Robson, 13–18 Sep 2007: Day 6

Mount Robson, 13–18 Sep 2007: Day 5

17 Sep 200722 Feb 2021 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

Our last day of hiking. Another cool overcast day, with cloud hanging low over the lake and Berg glacier. We packed up and had breakfast at the shelter, before one final group photo marked our cue to leave. We started out along the side of the lake and as we reached the Marmot campground at … Continue reading Mount Robson, 13–18 Sep 2007: Day 5

Mount Robson, 13–18 Sep 2007: Day 4

16 Sep 200722 Feb 2021 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

It started with a low rumble and ended with a resounding crack that echoed around the valley. Thunder? Maria and I sat up in the tent and looked at each other (as you do, in the dark). No lightning, no rain. Another brief rumble and it dawned on us: it was the glacier. We listened … Continue reading Mount Robson, 13–18 Sep 2007: Day 4

Looking forward to the summer hiking season and following the lifecycle of my favourite flowers, such as Western anemone, from pushing up through the snow to its fluffy finale.
Mountain reflections - a handful of nice views from 2022 seen in the South Chilcotins and the Canadian Rockies.
Those brief moments of golden sunshine make the hike all the more worthwhile.
Last weekend was a long weekend (at least for some of us) and of course the weather lived up to its reputation, giving us a sunny day on Tuesday. But there was a short window of fine weather on Saturday afternoon and we made a beeline for Hollyburn Mountain to catch the views.
A selection of recent beach scenes that make me glad to live by the sea, all taken within the past week.
Happy Mountain Monday! A selection of mountain photos from our trip to Garibaldi Lake a few weeks ago.
