2014: Year in Review

1 Jan 201521 Dec 2019 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

Another year over, a new year to look forward to. This year we were happy to make it to a few peaks that have been on our radar for a while now (Brunswick, Crown and Brandywine in particular), and explore Strathcona provincial park on Vancouver Island, which has been on our list ever since we … Continue reading 2014: Year in Review

Brunswick Mountain, 10 Aug 2014

With Maria's boots needing re-resoling, we perused a few hike options that could be done (in principle) in runners. Our original plan was to head for Radium Lake with the option of continuing up to Mt Webb, but we changed our minds for something a little closer: Brunswick Mountain. This peak has been on our … Continue reading Brunswick Mountain, 10 Aug 2014

Crown Mountain, 27 Jul 2014

Grouse Mountain has it all wrong: the real Peak of Vancouver is undoubtedly Crown Mountain. It's been a long time coming but it was worth the wait: Crown is a spectacular hike/scramble with incredible views all around. It even has a stunning view of my favourite North Shore peak, Goat Mountain. Maria, Brenda and I … Continue reading Crown Mountain, 27 Jul 2014

My enthusiasm for glacier lilies managed to persuade Maria, Andrew, Gabriela and Jeremy to join me once again to go admire those little yellow flowers that I find so cheery. The five of us piled into Jeremy & Gabriela's car and headed up the Sea-to-Sky highway to the trailhead for Garibaldi Lake, where we bagged … Continue reading Garibaldi Lake, 13 Jul 2014

I went in search of glacier lilies and was not disappointed :-) However, I was even more impressed by the displays of white heather and pink kalmia which were the most extensive I've ever seen. I called out this hike through Wanderung and was accompanied by two intrepid first timers - both in terms of … Continue reading Garibaldi Lake, 9 Jul 2014

Baden-Powell Trail, 24 Mar 2014

24 Mar 20146 May 2014 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

Curiosity got the better of me and I simply had to visit that stretch of the Baden-Powell trail I hadn't yet covered. Well, turns out I wasn't missing anything! And looking at the map, I realized that the only stretch I hadn't hiked was really just the couple of km of suburban wanderings between Cleveland … Continue reading Baden-Powell Trail, 24 Mar 2014

Looking forward to the summer hiking season and following the lifecycle of my favourite flowers, such as Western anemone, from pushing up through the snow to its fluffy finale.
Mountain reflections - a handful of nice views from 2022 seen in the South Chilcotins and the Canadian Rockies.
Those brief moments of golden sunshine make the hike all the more worthwhile.
Last weekend was a long weekend (at least for some of us) and of course the weather lived up to its reputation, giving us a sunny day on Tuesday. But there was a short window of fine weather on Saturday afternoon and we made a beeline for Hollyburn Mountain to catch the views.
A selection of recent beach scenes that make me glad to live by the sea, all taken within the past week.
Happy Mountain Monday! A selection of mountain photos from our trip to Garibaldi Lake a few weeks ago.
