2022 in review: Top Trips and Stats

16 Jan 202315 Jan 2023 ~ AndyG ~ 5 Comments

Initial thoughts After the past two years of excellent hiking I had lowered my expectations about how this year might go. We made the effort to book three big trips, reserving backcountry spots for two trips in Banff and one in Yoho, plus another week-long adventure in the South Chilcotins. But apart from that, I … Continue reading 2022 in review: Top Trips and Stats

Egypt Lakes, 24-29 Jul 2022

Opinion: A stunning area that showcases the grandeur and beauty of the Canadian Rockies, with many beautiful lakes and expansive views, not to mention the sheer profusion of flowers. Allow several days (minimum 3-5) in order to get the most out of exploring this area. Our six-day itinerary is not the easiest, given the big … Continue reading Egypt Lakes, 24-29 Jul 2022

Skoki Valley, 11-13 Sep 2022

4 Nov 20223 Nov 2022 ~ AndyG ~ 7 Comments

Opinion: Wow! How come it took us so long to visit this area? Despite the smoky conditions, which led to a more muted experience, the grandeur and beauty of the Skoki Valley and surroundings was captivating and left us wanting more. I mean, there were huge mountains in all directions and half-a-dozen or so gorgeous … Continue reading Skoki Valley, 11-13 Sep 2022

Mount Assiniboine, 15-21 Sep 2019

14 Oct 201918 Jun 2022 ~ AndyG ~ 2 Comments

OpinionWithout doubt one of the best backpacking experiences in BC and the Canadian Rockies, especially at this time of year when the larches turn golden, with easy, mellow hiking and stunning grand vistas. It's tough to get to, requiring 2-days each way for most hikers, and needs another 2-3 days on top of that to … Continue reading Mount Assiniboine, 15-21 Sep 2019

Our big backpacking trip of the year: a week exploring the Mount Assiniboine area in the Canadian Rockies with Merewyn, Victor and Jennifer. The trip began in Banff National Park, where we caught a shuttle bus up to the Sunshine Village ski area on Monday 27th July. From there we crossed the Alberta-BC border into … Continue reading Mount Assiniboine, 27 Jul – 2 Aug 2009

A selection of quieter, atmospheric images taken on my bike rides into work during January. Nothing spectacular but they all speak to me in some way.
A starry Saturday night on Mount Seymour. An afternoon hike saw us catching a hazy sunset from the summit and then being entranced by the stars and planets on show as we made our way back down. We paused awhile at Brockton Point to trace the constellations and take some photos, the best of which is shown here. Or at least part of it: swipe for a different part of the scene and the full photo.
It's all a matter of perspective...
Eight days in the South Chilcotin mountains - part 2. If you want to read more and see more photos, the link to my summary blog post is in my bio.
It's taken me months but I've finally written up the summary of our superb week of backpacking in the South Chilcotin mountains - link in bio.
