Blowdown Lake, 2-3 Oct 2021

24 Jun 202224 Jun 2022 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

Opinion: One of my favourite fallback areas to explore, especially when I'm out of other ideas or options. An easy hike in to the lake, although good camping spots are at a premium (especially when conditions are as damp as they were at the time of our trip), with several great destinations to visit. A … Continue reading Blowdown Lake, 2-3 Oct 2021

Opinion As a Plan B for the weekend it was superb, but this area is definitely a Plan A kind of place. Easy hike in, gorgeous flowers and lake, and a couple of easy ways to get good views: going as far as the sub-summit on Gott Peak offers up vast views all around. I … Continue reading Blowdown Pass, 22-23 Jun 2019

2018 in review

Looking back at 2018 I couldn't help but feel that it was an odd year, something we seem to say most years lately! We hiked a lot of trails that we'd hiked before, and the weather in what would normally be peak hiking season turned for the worse, with forest fires in August followed by … Continue reading 2018 in review

Some hikes come about as a result of tossing ideas about; some hikes just beg to be done when the time is right. This is one of the latter. With an upcoming trip to the UK where we'd most likely not see a single mountain, I had to satisfy my craving to 1) see glacier … Continue reading Gott Peak, 3 Jul 2010

A weekend awayFor a change we called out a pair of hikes to the Wanderung group, which found us at 8th & Pine for 7 am meeting up with Trey, Russ, Sara and Irene. We split up between the cars, picked up Maya on our way through downtown, then Andrew at Park Royal and headed … Continue reading Blowdown Pass and Joffre Lakes, 7-8 Jul 2007

A celebration of trees for this #ForestFriday
Mother Nature knows what month it is - Happy Pride Month!
Last weekend's tour of the waterfalls of Gold Creek was a delightfully peaceful and atmospheric wander through extreme green forest with the first of the spring flowers beginning to show. Apart from the thundering waterfalls, that is.
A selection of fawn lilies for #FawnLilyFriday - white fawn lilies from Salt Spring Island and pink fawn lilies from UBC.
A long weekend on Salt Spring Island offered up the pinkest of treats with more fairyslipper (calypso) orchids blooming than we've ever seen before. Absolutely stunning!
Looking forward to the summer hiking season and following the lifecycle of my favourite flowers, such as Western anemone, from pushing up through the snow to its fluffy finale.
