Hollyburn Mountain, 3 Apr 2016

3 Apr 201615 Feb 2021 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

Opinion:  I've done this trip so many times I could almost do it blindfold. (Not that I would want to for the first couple of hundred metres thanks to the dog owners who let their pets poop all along this part of the trail...) The trek up through the forest was welcome on a warm … Continue reading Hollyburn Mountain, 3 Apr 2016

Mount Strachan, 4 Jun 2015

A very peaceful and completely view-free hike on a cloudy day. No matter - the beauty of the forest and the flowers kept our attention from start to finish. We walked past Yew Lake to the HSCT as far as Strachan Meadows, then Christmas Gully up to the north summit (lunch). From there we went … Continue reading Mount Strachan, 4 Jun 2015

Hollyburn Lakes, 10 Jul 2014

Another nice little jaunt around the various Hollyburn trails, taking in a handful of ponds and lakes. As with last year, highly recommended for a gentle leg stretcher. No views for the most part, except for one point with a superb view over to Mt Baker and the new Port Mann bridge, and the lakes … Continue reading Hollyburn Lakes, 10 Jul 2014

Black Mountain, 20 Oct 2013

After all the fog and cloud we'd had in the city, we finally dragged ourselves out to get above it. Our reward was a gentle hike in warm sunshine with endless mountain views. Glorious! For all the times we've done this hike in the snow, this was the first time we'd followed this route up … Continue reading Black Mountain, 20 Oct 2013

Wow, what a way to end the year! Day three of some rare sunny winter weather and we simply could not resist going out again. After yesterday's late afternoon trip to Hollyburn, we'd decided that we had to finish the year on a similar note. We were a bit late starting but we were on … Continue reading Mount Strachan, 31 Dec 2010

A rare solo hike taking in the summits of Mount Strachan and Hollyburn Peak. I was determined to find some autumn colours and despite a crappy weather forecast, I insisted on dragging myself out and up to the Cypress parking lot. The rain had stopped maybe an hour before, but the clouds still covered the … Continue reading Mount Strachan, 18 Sep 2010

A celebration of trees for this #ForestFriday
Mother Nature knows what month it is - Happy Pride Month!
Last weekend's tour of the waterfalls of Gold Creek was a delightfully peaceful and atmospheric wander through extreme green forest with the first of the spring flowers beginning to show. Apart from the thundering waterfalls, that is.
A selection of fawn lilies for #FawnLilyFriday - white fawn lilies from Salt Spring Island and pink fawn lilies from UBC.
A long weekend on Salt Spring Island offered up the pinkest of treats with more fairyslipper (calypso) orchids blooming than we've ever seen before. Absolutely stunning!
Looking forward to the summer hiking season and following the lifecycle of my favourite flowers, such as Western anemone, from pushing up through the snow to its fluffy finale.
