Rampart Ponds, 27-29 Aug 2020

7 Jan 2021 ~ AndyG ~ 2 Comments

Opinion A superlative destination with a long but relatively easy hike in and out. The new campground at the Ponds is superb with unobstructed views of Mount Garibaldi and is now one of my favourite camping spots of all time! A three-day trip is the perfect amount of time to enjoy this area. Fact We … Continue reading Rampart Ponds, 27-29 Aug 2020

Opinion Long but not difficult, Elfin Lakes is a much better hike in the winter since the tedious rocks and gravel are covered, plus it's a superb way to get some alpine sunshine and epic views on those shorter days. Fact The road to the parking lot had quite a few potholes but none were … Continue reading Elfin Lakes, 9 Dec 2019

Opinion As a way to get several hours of uninterrupted alpine sunshine, Elfin Lakes is a great destination. I don't rate it as the most interesting of hikes - it's long and the view doesn't change much - but the views are superb and the lakes make a great lunch spot. Just don't feed the … Continue reading Elfin Lakes, 18 Nov 2018

Having said that, I think there are two times in the year where it's a really enjoyable … Continue reading Elfin Lakes, 2 Oct 2016

One Sunny Saturday...With a fine weekend forecast, we couldn't resist one last camping trip of the season. Maria, Andrew, and I set off on a beautiful clear Saturday morning and by 8.15 am we were under way. The air was cool, the occasional sunshine deliciously warm, and the view over Squamish and the Chief a … Continue reading Elfin Lakes, 11-12 Oct 2008

Possibly our closest bear encounter yet - we were less than 10 metres from the bear at its closest - this young black bear was far too comfortable around a large crowd of hikers.
Do you like coralroot? Swipe for more. And more. There were so many in bloom it was hard to know which ones to stop and photograph...
I need to spend more time in places like this...
Magnificent Mount Assiniboine with sunlit golden larches.
A band of blue.
Cone Mountain in Banff National Park, as seen on our first day of backpacking to Mount Assiniboine back in September 2019. A dull, sometime drizzly, but very peaceful 17 km of hiking to our first campground. It felt so good to be back in the Rockies for the first time in 6 years!
