Garibaldi Lake, 13 Jul 2014

13 Jul 201425 Nov 2014 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

My enthusiasm for glacier lilies managed to persuade Maria, Andrew, Gabriela and Jeremy to join me once again to go admire those little yellow flowers that I find so cheery. The five of us piled into Jeremy & Gabriela's car and headed up the Sea-to-Sky highway to the trailhead for Garibaldi Lake, where we bagged … Continue reading Garibaldi Lake, 13 Jul 2014

I went in search of glacier lilies and was not disappointed :-) However, I was even more impressed by the displays of white heather and pink kalmia which were the most extensive I've ever seen. I called out this hike through Wanderung and was accompanied by two intrepid first timers - both in terms of … Continue reading Garibaldi Lake, 9 Jul 2014

One Sunny Saturday...With a fine weekend forecast, we couldn't resist one last camping trip of the season. Maria, Andrew, and I set off on a beautiful clear Saturday morning and by 8.15 am we were under way. The air was cool, the occasional sunshine deliciously warm, and the view over Squamish and the Chief a … Continue reading Elfin Lakes, 11-12 Oct 2008

Elfin Lakes, 19–20 Jan 2008

19 Jan 2008 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

A Saturday of clouds `Wow!' I wrote that in the snow on the Saturday with my trekking pole, and it summed up the entire weekend. This was our first winter backpacking trip, an overnighter to the shelter at Elfin Lakes. We got a reasonably early start and set off from Vancouver in light rain. Anne … Continue reading Elfin Lakes, 19–20 Jan 2008

We've done this before, haven't we? Well we did it in the snow back in April, and we backpacked in to Taylor Meadows last year. This time, our friend Catherine was taking a group of co-workers up there, a gang of astronomers who were visiting UBC for a conference. We tagged along as informal guides … Continue reading Garibaldi Lake, 8 Sep 2007

Garibaldi Lake snowshoe, 21 Apr 2007

We've been wanting to do this ever since we saw someone else's photos of Garibaldi Lake covered in snow. We got to the parking lot just after 10 am. Only a little bit of snow by the roadside and the parking lot was clear. And free :-) The parking meter was still wrapped in its … Continue reading Garibaldi Lake snowshoe, 21 Apr 2007

Labour Day weekend, the official end of summer, last chance to get out hiking etc. Three days camping near Garibaldi Lake. Saturday: We set out to camp at the Lake, only to find out there were no camp sites left. Plan B was to head to Taylor Meadows where we got one of the last … Continue reading Garibaldi Lake, 2-4 Sep 2006

There's a little patch of chocolate lilies that grows in a very popular park near Vancouver, just far enough away from the beach for most visitors to never know they were there...
Brockton Point is a nice little after-work destination at this time of year. It doesn't usually feel like winter though... It was very cold and the snow was soft - warm layers and snowshoes definitely needed off-trail (even ailing ones like mine, which broke again).
The one and only Mount Assiniboine, looking quite majestic in its snowy coat.
You could say I'm very fawn'd of these lilies... #ErythroniumOregonum #WhiteFawnLily #LighthousePark
Magnificent, majestic Mamquam Mountain
A successful search for blue (king) gentian, and the last blooms of the season.
