Traboulay PoCo Trail, 10 Apr 2022

16 Apr 202213 Apr 2022 ~ AndyG ~ 2 Comments

Opinion: A fine, well-marked cycle route that takes in all the sights of Port Coquitlam with some great riverside views of Golden Ears. While it rubs shoulders with traffic and industry in a couple of places, much of the route is close to or immersed in nature. I wouldn't walk much of this route as … Continue reading Traboulay PoCo Trail, 10 Apr 2022

2016 in review

1 Jan 201721 Dec 2019 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

Well that's another year of hiking under our boots. Safe to say that we felt we should have done more but the weather seemed to be against us for much of 2016. And yet it seems we did spend more days hiking this year than last (well, I did at any rate). Summer came and … Continue reading 2016 in review

Golden Ears, 20-21 Aug 2016

Opinion My long-awaited return to Golden Ears was an unqualified success. Yes, it's a bit of a slog but it's also a really satisfying summit to reach. Maybe I'm fitter than I was in 2008, maybe I carried a little less stuff this time, but I didn't find the various nasty stretches of this hike … Continue reading Golden Ears, 20-21 Aug 2016

Pitt Lake Dykes, 17 Oct 2010

A sunny Sunday and a gentle wind-down after yesterday's mind-blowing hike to Yellow Aster Butte. We met up with Anne and Adib and their youngster and headed out to the dykes near the southern end of Pitt Lake. We'd walked there last December on an icy day so we were quite happy to head out … Continue reading Pitt Lake Dykes, 17 Oct 2010

Alder Flats, 3 June 2007

Somehow I'd got it into my head that this was a flat and boring hike... We settled on this one as a fallback, a hike to get "out there" more than anything else because the summits are still snow-encrusted. I knew it was about 12 km, comparable with Norvan Falls which is flat and, well, … Continue reading Alder Flats, 3 June 2007

Possibly our closest bear encounter yet - we were less than 10 metres from the bear at its closest - this young black bear was far too comfortable around a large crowd of hikers.
Do you like coralroot? Swipe for more. And more. There were so many in bloom it was hard to know which ones to stop and photograph...
I need to spend more time in places like this...
Magnificent Mount Assiniboine with sunlit golden larches.
A band of blue.
Cone Mountain in Banff National Park, as seen on our first day of backpacking to Mount Assiniboine back in September 2019. A dull, sometime drizzly, but very peaceful 17 km of hiking to our first campground. It felt so good to be back in the Rockies for the first time in 6 years!
