Hollyburn Mountain, 12 Oct 2020

13 Oct 2020 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

Opinion A very enjoyable hike on a misty day, Hollyburn remains one of our favourite go-to hikes on the North Shore even when the views are non-existent. It's not too long or difficult and the trail is mostly quite decent, at least by local standards (which means there's still mud and plenty of roots to … Continue reading Hollyburn Mountain, 12 Oct 2020

Hollyburn Peak, 12 Aug 2017

Opinion A different approach to Hollyburn: I took the usual trail to the Baden-Powell junction, then followed the B-P to the Old Strachan trail and took that to the Strachan-Hollyburn col, then up steeply to the summit of Hollyburn and back down the usual route. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and saw no-one on the Old … Continue reading Hollyburn Peak, 12 Aug 2017

Hollyburn Trails, 8 May 2016

12 May 201613 Jun 2016 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

Opinion Despite spending much of its time in unappealing second-growth forest, this circuit was actually remarkably pleasant on a warm sunny afternoon. Spring flowers, running into the gigantic Hollyburn Fir, some gorgeous light, and a very quiet trail made for an enjoyable few hours of hiking. Fact We parked at the city overlook at the … Continue reading Hollyburn Trails, 8 May 2016

Opinion:  I've done this trip so many times I could almost do it blindfold. (Not that I would want to for the first couple of hundred metres thanks to the dog owners who let their pets poop all along this part of the trail...) The trek up through the forest was welcome on a warm … Continue reading Hollyburn Mountain, 3 Apr 2016

Hollyburn Lakes, 10 Jul 2014

10 Jul 201411 Nov 2014 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

Another nice little jaunt around the various Hollyburn trails, taking in a handful of ponds and lakes. As with last year, highly recommended for a gentle leg stretcher. No views for the most part, except for one point with a superb view over to Mt Baker and the new Port Mann bridge, and the lakes … Continue reading Hollyburn Lakes, 10 Jul 2014

Hollyburn snowshoe, 5 Apr 2009

5 Apr 2009 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

Not another trip up Hollyburn? Yes indeed, but this one's different: it was sunny! The first time in over two years that we were at the summit of Hollyburn on snowshoes with a view to the north. Some of Maria's dancing friends had expressed interest in getting out snowshoeing with us, so when we saw … Continue reading Hollyburn snowshoe, 5 Apr 2009

Hollyburn Snowshoe, 11 Jan 2009

11 Jan 2009 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

Our first snowshoe trip of 2009 took us to the same place as the last of 2008 :-) But so what? More snow had fallen, and despite the dim prospects of any views we met up with Andrew and set off for the summit. Parking was a challenge as the place was crawling with people … Continue reading Hollyburn Snowshoe, 11 Jan 2009

Hollyburn Snowshoe, 28 Dec 2008

28 Dec 2008 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

One last trip of 2008, one more snowshoe. Since we had been up to Mt Seymour a couple of weeks earlier, we opted for the Hollyburn access trail. The visibility was poor, and it only got worse. Still we had a pleasant wander through the trees in fresh snow. On reaching the start of the … Continue reading Hollyburn Snowshoe, 28 Dec 2008

What better way to feel like Christmas than to head up into the mountains and enjoy some snow? And on Christmas Eve, too! As usual with our attempts on Hollyburn, we set off after mid-day and somehow managed to get a parking spot not too far from the trailhead. One of the perks of turning … Continue reading Hollyburn snowshoe, 24 Dec 2007

Hollyburn Peak, 26 Aug 2007

26 Aug 200712 May 2010 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

My Mum and Dad's 40th Wedding Anniversary :-) But it didn't look like much of a hiking day in the morning. fortunately, by lunchtime the clouds had begun to lift and the sun was out. We had time to fit in a quick hike, and we quickly decided on Hollyburn Peak because it's short and … Continue reading Hollyburn Peak, 26 Aug 2007

There's a little patch of chocolate lilies that grows in a very popular park near Vancouver, just far enough away from the beach for most visitors to never know they were there...
Brockton Point is a nice little after-work destination at this time of year. It doesn't usually feel like winter though... It was very cold and the snow was soft - warm layers and snowshoes definitely needed off-trail (even ailing ones like mine, which broke again).
The one and only Mount Assiniboine, looking quite majestic in its snowy coat.
You could say I'm very fawn'd of these lilies... #ErythroniumOregonum #WhiteFawnLily #LighthousePark
Magnificent, majestic Mamquam Mountain
A successful search for blue (king) gentian, and the last blooms of the season.
