Lynn Creek, 13 Nov 2021

16 Nov 202115 Nov 2021 ~ AndyG ~ 3 Comments

Opinion: When you have only two hours of parking and need something easy to stretch your legs, the trails in Lynn Headwaters regional park are a great option. Not much to see on a rainy day, but the creek offers some open sight-lines as respite from the dense forest. Fact: We parked near the End … Continue reading Lynn Creek, 13 Nov 2021

Opinion A decent leg-stretcher for a dull or rainy day, especially at this time of year when the vine maples stand out as bright yellow beacons in the forest. It's still very muddy and slippery in places, and the walk back along the creek gets a bit tedious, but the greenery is always a welcome … Continue reading Lynn Loop, 19 Oct 2019

Opinion Every hike has its season, and the season for Norvan Falls is pretty much now. Despite the fact that the falls are not spectacular, and that the hike is long and not especially interesting, we really enjoyed today's trek. The light was perfect, the forest green was soothing, and the woodland flowers were blooming … Continue reading Norvan Falls, 2 Jun 2018

Opinion Exactly as I remembered, the section from Lynn Headwaters to Mosquito Creek is pleasant (especially for a North Shore hike) while the rest of the way to Grouse is dismal, dingy, and a rock-and-root mess of a trail. However, given our lack of fitness right now it was easier to continue on to Grouse … Continue reading Baden-Powell Trail, 27 Feb 2016

Another sunny day in Lynn Headwaters. The sunshine in the forest was really very cheery, and despite cool temperatures, spring is definitely here. The waterfall made a nice destination, although in reality this was a day for getting up onto a summit. This hike was the very first trip I organized through Wanderung in April … Continue reading Norvan Falls, 9 Apr 2015

Lynn Peak, 14 Jan 2015

Oh, why did I do it? The rocks! The roots! The rocks again! And the views - the complete and utter lack of views! Except on a sunny day like today. Wait - rewind and say that again? Whoa, yes indeed, Lynn Peak actually has a view and I have to say it's a pretty … Continue reading Lynn Peak, 14 Jan 2015

A celebration of trees for this #ForestFriday
Mother Nature knows what month it is - Happy Pride Month!
Last weekend's tour of the waterfalls of Gold Creek was a delightfully peaceful and atmospheric wander through extreme green forest with the first of the spring flowers beginning to show. Apart from the thundering waterfalls, that is.
A selection of fawn lilies for #FawnLilyFriday - white fawn lilies from Salt Spring Island and pink fawn lilies from UBC.
A long weekend on Salt Spring Island offered up the pinkest of treats with more fairyslipper (calypso) orchids blooming than we've ever seen before. Absolutely stunning!
Looking forward to the summer hiking season and following the lifecycle of my favourite flowers, such as Western anemone, from pushing up through the snow to its fluffy finale.
