Al’s Habrich Ridge Trail, 12 Sep 2021

15 Sep 2021 ~ AndyG ~ 2 Comments

Opinion: I quite like this trail for a quick but not too tough workout, the main downside being the cost of entry. Some superb views and great terrain to explore. Extending it with the Neverland Loop is fun, though I recommend following the suggested (counter-clockwise) route to avoid a tricky descent. Watch for those trail … Continue reading Al’s Habrich Ridge Trail, 12 Sep 2021

Al’s Habrich Ridge Trail, 20 Oct 2018

Opinion I think I may have just found the best view in the Lower Mainland. I'm not kidding. But you've got to earn it with an exceptionally steep climb through forest and meadows, followed by that same steep descent that could get very tricky when wet. Definitely not a trail for beginners. Allow plenty of … Continue reading Al’s Habrich Ridge Trail, 20 Oct 2018

Opinion This trail is growing on me more every time I hike it. Once past the initial grunt along with the hordes climbing the Chief, it has many enjoyable sections with some nice views, spectacular waterfalls (at this time of year anyway), and some peaceful forest. Plus I have to say I really enjoy sitting … Continue reading Sea to Summit trail, 19 May 2018

Opinion A surprisingly nice little trip to do on snowshoes, comparable to the jaunt up to Black Mountain but way more interesting. The view from the turnaround point on one of the bluffs was superb. Beyond the Marker 18 viewpoint, the trail markers are more sparse than is ideal, especially if Sea to Sky (S2S) … Continue reading Al’s Habrich Ridge Trail, 14 Jan 2018

A celebration of trees for this #ForestFriday
Mother Nature knows what month it is - Happy Pride Month!
Last weekend's tour of the waterfalls of Gold Creek was a delightfully peaceful and atmospheric wander through extreme green forest with the first of the spring flowers beginning to show. Apart from the thundering waterfalls, that is.
A selection of fawn lilies for #FawnLilyFriday - white fawn lilies from Salt Spring Island and pink fawn lilies from UBC.
A long weekend on Salt Spring Island offered up the pinkest of treats with more fairyslipper (calypso) orchids blooming than we've ever seen before. Absolutely stunning!
Looking forward to the summer hiking season and following the lifecycle of my favourite flowers, such as Western anemone, from pushing up through the snow to its fluffy finale.
