Garibaldi Lake, 9 Jul 2014

9 Jul 201412 Jul 2014 ~ AndyG ~ Leave a comment

I went in search of glacier lilies and was not disappointed :-) However, I was even more impressed by the displays of white heather and pink kalmia which were the most extensive I've ever seen. I called out this hike through Wanderung and was accompanied by two intrepid first timers - both in terms of … Continue reading Garibaldi Lake, 9 Jul 2014

Stein Valley Mini Traverse: Day 6, 4 Sep 2008

A noticeably warmer night, and we awoke to more warm sunshine. We had a fairly leisurely start and took time to soak up the sun. Leaving the campground, we soon encountered a deep washout channel which ran down from a gorge in the cliffs above. It was as if a huge plough had come through … Continue reading Stein Valley Mini Traverse: Day 6, 4 Sep 2008

We crawled out of the tent around 7.30 and trudged all the way back to the food cache to use the facilities and collect our food. It was so soothing and peaceful by the river, the perfect … Continue reading Stein Valley Mini Traverse: Day 5, 3 Sep 2008

Maria and I had done Mt Frosty on Canada Day 2007 with Merewyn and Anne (although I didn't make it to the summit), … Continue reading Manning Park, 25–27 Jul 2008

A celebration of trees for this #ForestFriday
Mother Nature knows what month it is - Happy Pride Month!
Last weekend's tour of the waterfalls of Gold Creek was a delightfully peaceful and atmospheric wander through extreme green forest with the first of the spring flowers beginning to show. Apart from the thundering waterfalls, that is.
A selection of fawn lilies for #FawnLilyFriday - white fawn lilies from Salt Spring Island and pink fawn lilies from UBC.
A long weekend on Salt Spring Island offered up the pinkest of treats with more fairyslipper (calypso) orchids blooming than we've ever seen before. Absolutely stunning!
Looking forward to the summer hiking season and following the lifecycle of my favourite flowers, such as Western anemone, from pushing up through the snow to its fluffy finale.
